ご多忙中とは存じますが、深秋の景色と器の融合をお楽しみ頂きますようご案内申し上げます。

20日、21日いずれか雨天時の場合、翌週の土日いずれかに振替開場いたします。雨天時も開場しておりますが、外庭の展示由え、まずはお電話にてご確認ください。

In November, our third Home exhibition will take place, once again in our large garden. My ceramic work will be displayed under a blue sky, hopefully when the fall colors are at their peak!

In case of rain on either the 20th (Sat) or 21st (Sun), the event will be extended to the next weekend.
(Rain or no rain, we’ll remain open and do our best, but please telephone before coming, just to be sure!)

猛暑だった今年の夏。まだ暑さは残るものの、何となく秋の気配も感じるようになりました。２００８年に初めて日本橋高島屋にて発表の場をいただき、おかげさまで２回目を迎える事となりました。秋冬の季節にお使い頂きたい普段使いの食器や、秋の野花など生ける花器、前回ご好評いただいております斜森博行氏とのコラボレーションステンドグラスランプなどを展示いたします。近くにお越しの際、お気軽に足をお運び下さい。

HARVEY YOUNG POTTERY EXHIBITION

In 2008, I had the opportunity to display my work at Nihonbashi Takashimaya Department Store for the first time. My second show at the same venue will take place this September.
The unusual heat of the Japanese summer still remains, but we sense that the advent of autumn is imminent. Reflecting the coming change of seasons, my exhibition will feature ceramic tableware and flower vases made for use during fall and winter. Also on display will be stoneware and stained glass lamps made in collaboration between myself and Mr. Hiroyuki Nanamori.
I have spent all summer preparing for this event, and would be very grateful if you can find some time to visit Takashimaya Department Store to see the result of my efforts.

風薫る５月。ヤング陶房の庭も桜色から、新緑色に変わりました。緑に包まれた庭を、５感で味わえたら‥と、２日間に渡り初めてガーデンリサイタルを開催する事となりました。
少しでも多くのお客様にお越し頂けたらと思います。プロの奏者による心地よい演奏と、アフタヌーンティーで身も心もリフレッシュしませんか？

お車でお越しのお客様は、駐車スペースに限りがございますので人数が多くなる場合なるべく乗り合わせてお越し下さい。
若干のお椅子はご用意しておりますが、シートも敷きますので座布団をお持ち下さい。

奏者ご紹介
５月２２日（土） ビブラフォン奏者 臼井麻衣子
神奈川県鎌倉市在住。ピアノを５歳、クラシック打楽器を１６歳で始める。 宇都宮短期大学に打楽器部門を首席入学。同校首席卒業。９８年渡米、
バークリー音楽大学入学。デイブ サミュエル氏、エド セイドン氏に師事。数々のコンサート活動を行う。バークリー音楽大学で首席リストに載り卒業。
０３年帰国後、ジャズ、ラテン、クラシックと幅広いジャンルで活躍中。CD制作、作曲、ラジオ番組出演など行う。
５月２３日（日）長唄三味線 岡安流分家家元七世 岡安 喜代八（おかやす•きよはち）
岡安 喜代洋（おかやす•きよひろ）
岡安 喜代八 昭和９年東京生まれ。年少時より手ほどきを受け、宗家十四世杵屋六左衛門（人間国宝）に指示。
師と共に多くの舞台に出演。昭和４９年、皇居内にて御前演奏。平成５年『豊島区邦楽連盟』理事長就任。
国立劇場など、多くの舞台にて邦楽の普及に勤め、現在に至る。
岡安 喜代洋 昭和３３年東京生まれ。平成２年、七世岡安 喜代八に師事。長唄協会演奏会、女流名家長唄大会、岡安会など唄方として出演。
平成２０年、NHK文化センター宇都宮教室、長唄三味線講座の講師を勤め現在に至る。
Two one hour music recitals will take place in our garden on the 22nd (Saturday) and the 23rd (Sunday). You are invited to attend our first event of this kind, and we’re very much hoping for fair weather!
May 22: Usui Maiko, Vibraphonist
Ms. Usui began piano studies at the age of 5, and began classical percussion studies at the age of 16.
She is a graduate of Berkeley School of Music in the United States.
She has worked as a professional musician in Japan since 2003, giving Jazz, Latin and Classical vibraphone performances.

May 23: Nagauta Shamisen
Okayasu Kiyohachi, Shamisen Master, will perform with his apprentice, Okayasu Kiyohiro.
Okayasu Kiyohachi was born in Tokyo in 1934, and has played the shamisen since childhood.
He studied under Shamisen Master Kineya Rokuzaemon.
In 1971 he played before the Showa Emperor, and he has also given performances at the National Theatre of Japan.
Okayasu Kiyohiro was born in Tokyo in 1958.
She became the apprentice of Okayasu Kiyohachi in 1990.
She is very active as a shamisen performer, and as shamisen teacher at The NHK Utsunomiya Cultural Center.
Sunday’s recital will be unique for the musicians, as it will be the first time for them to perform outdoors.

The price of admission on Saturday and on Sunday is ¥1,000.
The recitals will take place outdoors, in a casual at-home atmosphere. Guests are requested to bring their own cushions for seating.
In case of rain, the performance of the day will be canceled.
窯出ししました。 A Kiln Opening

２１時間の窯焚きを終えて、窯の蓋を開けたとたん『オギャー！！』と産声が聞こえる様です。
『オギャー！！』の代わりに、カチン、チン、カチン、チン、チン♪ と、貫入（かんにゅう）の心地よい音が響いてきます。
それはとても小さな音で、窯の蓋を空ける事で外気の冷たい空気にさらされるとその温度差で
１３００℃まで上げた窯の中で焼き溶けた釉薬は、温度のギャップに耐えかね、ヒビが入るのです。
そして、カチン、チン、チン♪
器の奥深さを表現する有り難いヒビなのです。
A newborn baby announces its arrival to the world with a high-pitched wailing cry.
Newly fired pottery, still hot, makes pinging sounds as it comes from the kiln.
The sound comes from the glaze as it shrinks over the ware as it cools. The rigid glaze material has almost no flexibility, and must form a network of small cracks to equalize its compression over the clay form. This pattern of glaze cracks, called CRAZE, is present on almost all high fired ceramics. It adds a visual dimension to the glaze which is aesthetically pleasing to almost all lovers of ceramic art.

I have recently fired a kiln load of new ware which is now available for purchase. If you enter our showroom you might still hear some pinging as the glazes continue to settle.
During the Golden Week holiday we will be open every day. If you come to Mashiko, please feel free to come to my workshop without an appointment.
We are in a quiet area and we’re easy to find if you use the map provided on this website.
The weather is warm, and I hope you’ll make a little time to relax in our large garden!
私は、さくら市にある２００９年鐵竹堂瀧澤記念館での作陶展で２００点の作品を展示すると約束しました。
しかし、作陶展作品の搬入日が私の頭の中にセットされると、作品を作る私の気持ちはその１秒でも時間が許す限り止める事ができません。
私の妻は、よく『早めに仕上げてください！』と言いますが、そのアドバイス通りに中々いきません。
只今、開催中の鐵竹堂瀧澤記念館では３４０点ほど展示しており、その一部分をお見せします。
もし、お時間とこの作品をご覧になる興味がありましたら、お越しいただけると私はとても嬉しく思います！
I promised to bring about 200 pieces to my 2009 Exhibition at Takizawa Techikudou Kinenkaikan in Sakura City. But once an exhibition deadline is set in my mind, I can’t stop working until the last second of production time has been used up! My wife often suggests that I should finish early, but her advice is never heeded!

栃木県の北部にさくら市がありそこに鐵竹堂瀧澤記念館があります。さくら市からは、日光のシンボル男体山とその横には那須連山がよく見えます。
Tetchikudou Takizawa Kinenkan is located in Sakura City, Northern Tochigi Prefecture. From Sakura City, Mount Nantai in Nikko National Park and the Nasu Highlands can been seen in their respective mountain areas.
鐵竹堂瀧澤記念館は1892年に明治天皇の行在所として建てられました。この建物は栃木県指定文化財となっております。この由緒ある建物を代々守っておられる瀧澤様は1995年に開館を決意いたしました。
この贅を尽くした建物と庭は当時のままの状態で保存されており、現在この建物は個展や文化イベントなどで使用されております。
In 1892, Techikudou was built as a rest house for use by Japan’s Meiji Emperor. It is now designated as a Cultural Property of Tochigi Prefecture. The original owners, the Takizawa Family, re-opened the building in 1995. The exquisite structure and its garden have been well preserved, and are now used as a venue for art exhibitions and other cultural events.
2009年鐵竹堂瀧澤記念館での作陶展は、初めて益子の地に足を踏み入れてから現在に至るまでの作陶生活40周年という記念すべき年に行う展覧会です。日本は私に沢山の力をくれた国で、これまで培って来た私の作品の全てを支えてくれた友達やお客様に観ていただけたら私は幸せに思います。
My 2009 exhibition at Techikudou will celebrate a forty year association with the Pottery Town called Mashiko. Japan has indeed been very good to me, so by displaying my work at Techikudou, it’s my intention to show my friends what I have accomplished since arriving in this country.
