My workshop building is quite large, by present Japanese standards.
There are spaces for three wheels, all facing large windows.

The floor is hardpacked dirt of a special mixture. It can be stood upon or walked on for hours without my legs becoming tired, and if it is kept damp, it will help to keep clay dust out of the air.

I usually use a single type of Mashiko clay which is readily available at the Mashiko Potters' Cooperative Store. I mix my own glazes from materials which are also purchased locally, for the most part.

I employ various tools and techniques to form the ware. Most of it is made on the wheel, but I also make use of molds and extrusion tools which I brought with me when I returned to Mashiko from California in 1983.

All ware is fired in my gas kiln and I do five to seven firings per year.

I can work outside, if I need to, with or without the protection of the large awning in front of the building.
