この花器の形は、古代中国の宋、明時代に作られた磁器の物に影響されており、今に伝えられています。首と、下台は極端に狭く、胴体は丸く膨らみを帯ており、この梅瓶の特徴と言えるでしょう。しかし、この形には意味があるのです。梅の木を一本だけ格好が良く挿すのに、都合の良い形がこの形と伝えられています。それは、この瓶の名前にも表れています。
釉薬の、少々緑がかった青色は、木灰の影響にあります。そして、花器の形に添って細く流れている様は、窯の高温熟成による自然のなせる技なのです。

The feminine shape of this stoneware vase is inspired by the Meiping porcelains which were popular during China’s Song and Ming periods. The short neck and narrow mouth served to steady a single branch of plum tree blossoms.

The greenish blue glaze is made mostly from wood ash. A rivulet pattern formed over the vase as the glaze melted during the firing.
