Revolving Tray

A pinkish “cloud” pattern has formed on the white glaze, the result of hot gasses reacting with the materials during a prolonged kiln firing. Such patterns appear randomly on this particular glaze, and are very appealing to the eye. This effect can be facilitated but not controlled, a fact which tends to keep me working at it!
A mixture of Mashiko and Shigaraki clays was used to make this tray. Very small feldspar nodules (a natural component of Shigaraki clay) protrude through the otherwise smooth glaze surface, giving it a very interesting texture.
Because revolving trays are usually made of lacquer or wood, I believe my stoneware serving dishes of this type are unique. The only ones I have ever seen are those that I make .
A “Lazy Susan” bearing connects this tray to its wooden base.
